Pilotage and towage for Salalah calls

The Harbour Master controls pilotage, towage, linesmen and other marine services. Port Control confirms the pilot, tug plan, anchorage and movement time for each vessel.

Pilotage

Required from 200 GRT

Unless the Harbour Master authorizes the vessel to move without a pilot.

Port Control

VHF channel 12

Request permission before entering port limits or making a vessel movement.

Harbour speed

Maximum 5 knots

The vessel must always proceed at a safe speed for the conditions.

Towage

Assigned by the Harbour Master

The required number of tugs is set for the vessel and movement.

Approach and boarding

Follow the approach assigned by Port Control

  • The port entrance is approached from the northeast between the East Breakwater and Container Terminal.
  • Inbound pilots board outside the channel at the pilot boarding ground confirmed for the call.
  • A vessel at anchorage must not approach the channel without Port Control authorization.
  • Keep pilot ladders, anchors, propulsion and steering ready for the movement.
